Visiting One of the Last Remaining Retro McDonald's Before it Closes For Good
Remember how much fun a trip to McDonald's used to be? Remember how in a blink of an eye they all changed into sad grey boxes? I found one that has managed to escape the changes, at least for now. Join me for a trip to one of the last remaining old school McDonalds and stick around till the end of the video for some of the other one's I've seen in my travels.

The one in my state of Rhode Island where I use to live had one like this that was “modernized” with the new look. It had the Ray Croc Memorial Plaque when you walked in. They took it down. He is now only recognized on their website with no photo.

Amazing how it was probably Sears being willing to become part of a mall that drug everyone in and it's what helped kill them off. But I also think about the hell of 90s-00s Christmas shopping, they wanted it to be like that, I can see why the mall died. What a hellscape, thank God we didn't have all the illegals, race nonsense, and defund the police back then the mall would have been the Wild West. A lot of our dying ones pretty much are now, just a den of illegals committing petty crimes and putting everyone off from going there. Ironic really because all Amazon is a regression to what Sears and Montgomery Ward were: a catalog (online sure) that mails you what you order. Probably that and the bad economy since 08 never really righting itself for Millennials so that baby boom that should have happened in the late 00s early 10s never really did alongside the traditional family life that powered these stores.

"Overly bland & boring" saves on the corporate bottom dollar, and that's all they care about. I remember the McDonald's we had in our town had a 50's diner theme with a real jukebox! After the early 2010's remodel it just sucked any personality out of the building. I've never seen an older McDonald's have a green roof🤔, beautiful building distilled in time👏

This one looks a bit more like the 90’s version, but I could be wrong. I recall the 80’s McDonald’s being darker and more home-like, better furnishings.

Im 40 so im old enough to have experienced McDonald's with the old metal play places and just the magic like you said. I even had a birthday party there which alot of kids did back then. The memes are right and McDonald's from back then is an excited child McDonalds now is a depressed adult. Thanks for sharing the video. It was nice to see they arent all the grey boxes.

McDonald's got rid of Ronald, got rid of the good toys that was put in happy meals , and they got rid of the play areas in all the restaurants , they have completely made the restaurants very unappealing to kids.

Very interesting, but not what I was seeking. When I was a kid in the early 1970s, my mom would take the family over to Flemington for a day of shopping. There was a place outside the town, filled with small, charming boutique shops, scattered across rolling green hills. I have been trying to track down what that place was called and what happened to it for decades now. There were a few boutiques that we loved as kids; the only one whose name I recall was the "Paper Tiger". Does that ring a bell for anyone? For my siblings and me, "Flemington" meant that bucolic little village of specialty shops. Precious memories. If any reader can give me more info on that, please post a reply!

The McDonalds corporation just don't understand its base at all. We don't want all McDonalds to look like ugly borg boxes. We want variety and spice of life! How is the really old retro McDonalds in IL allowed to keep its 1960's design for over 50 years?!

I feel sorry for young people born too late to remember the 80s. Everything was more flamboyant, new, dazzling, and invigorating. Today places like malls are more concerned about cutting costs than inspiring awe in their customers. An office building I once worked in was built in 1987 and had a huge lobby/atrium in the center where the ceiling went all the way up to a skylight roof. Today they would not build an office building like that because it’s considered a waste of space. But the 80s was about beauty and enjoying life and less about squeezing every dollar possible out of everything like today.

I would have put on some crappy music from today with the “how it looks today” and and for how it looked in 1988 I would have played “Heartbreak heard around the world” by Patty Smyth which actually came out in 1987 and was popular in 1988. I never was crazy about those effeminate British bands like Tears for Fears back in the 80s. Besides, the tune played here was in 1985, not 1988.
